Rihanna's new album goes platinum just one day after release but Billboard mag won't recongnize it!

Rihanna released her new album 'Anti' this week, first on Tidal and then on iTunes. And yesterday the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it with Platinum status...but Billboard magazine refused to recognize the platinum status.

And here's why. As part of a $25million deal with Samsung, Anti became available as a free download on Jay Z's Tidal this week, making it to go platinum instantly...

The free download is the reason Billboard isn't interested. A Billboard spokesperson tells Digital Trends,

“Billboard has a well documented policy of not counting free albums towards the charts.”

Physical copies of the album will go on sale Feb 5th.

A Treasury minister has flown round the world to woo global corporations with promises of cosy arrangements with the taxman, it emerged last night.

David Gauke, the third most senior figure in George Osborne’s department, told US firms that it was not up to politicians to decide what is a ‘fair amount’ of tax.

Just days after Mr Gauke appeared in the Commons to defend the controversial Google tax deal, it has emerged he spent thousands of pounds of public money travelling across the globe to ‘promote the UK tax system’.

The minister outlined how the international giants would be given VIP treatment by HM Revenue & Customs. 

He pledged that if their firm was large enough, the taxman would provide ‘relationship managers’ to help them avoid ‘expensive litigation’ over tax disputes. 

And he told them the amount of tax that international companies pay should not be dictated by ‘what a group of politicians think is the “fair amount”.’

Mr Gauke declared: ‘The UK government believes in a low corporation rate. We believe in a simple system that taxes profits in the UK. 

'And we believe in good working relationships between companies and tax officials.’

He warned that there would be no ‘preferential special deals’ for big businesses. 

However, the arrangements for big business present a sharp contrast to the way in which HMRC deals with ordinary taxpayers – including small businesses.

Only last month the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee called HMRC’s services ‘worse than abysmal’ after it was revealed the average person calling its helpline to discuss tax queries waited an ‘appalling’ 38 minutes to get through.

Mr Gauke flew to an exclusive event in Los Angeles in April 3013 to say his government would welcome businesses ‘with open arms’ if they decide to come over here.

A report issued by the Treasury days later as a brochure for overseas businesses advertised the UK’s ‘flexible and competitive rules for taxing the profits of multinationals’.

Ministers are already facing controversy over the tax affairs of web giants Google and Facebook. Critics will ask why it was that large multinationals were offered such cosy deals with HMRC at a time when small businesses found it almost impossible to speak to an adviser.

In the original image, the Shake Ya Bum Bum rapper's Lycra bodysuit-clad bottom casts a shadow on the wall behind her.

However in the image doing the rounds on the internet, the shadow is all but gone and her thighs thickened so that they have a noticeable dimple.

While many either thought the snap was real or that Kim had done it, Twitter users Inspector Cakes, which usually calls stars out for making their derrieres more voluptuous, set the record straight - but in a mean way.

Rio's Olympics are on the verge of disaster as fear grows over the Zika virus, which has left more than 4,000 newborns with shrunken heads.

Female spectators and even athletes of childbearing age are being warned by countries and medical professionals around the world to reconsider their plans to travel to Brazil for fear of what could happen to their unborn children after the country was overrun by the mosquito-borne disease.

Russia and Australian officials have both raised fears for those women preparing to compete in August's Games, while numerous airlines around the world are offering pregnant women the chance to swap or refund their tickets to avoid travelling to affected areas - of which Brazil is the worst.

'It is the perfect set-up for proliferation,' said Isaac Bogoch, a tropical infectious disease specialist at Toronto General Hospital, who published a scientific paper predicting Zika's rapid spread. 'It can keep spreading until we find a way to contain the virus or keep the mosquitoes from transmitting it.' 

In fact, medical professionals have warned that the virus has 'explosive pandemic potential', and could spread around the world infecting as many as four million people.

TBC debate goes global on Twitter

The minister for Information, Culture, Artistes and Sports, Mr Nape Nnauye.  

   

The government’s decision to limit parliamentary live coverage by Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) ignited a heated twitter debate with majority of tweeps dismissing the decision as unacceptable.

Moments after the minister for Information, Culture, Artistes and Sports, Mr Nape Nnauye, announced in Parliament yesterday that the live coverage by the state-run broadcaster will only cover questions and answer session in the morning.

Twitter-sphere went abuzz with people differing in opinion over the matter, while many criticized the decision, there were also those who defended the government’s move.

Kigoma Urban MP on ACT-Wazalendo ticket Zitto Kabwe, who was vocal against the matter in Parliament, took the debate to twitter saying “Limiting live coverage on financial basis is shallow argument, democracy is a costly endeavour.”

A tweep and blogger based in Scotland, Mr Evarist Chahali tweeted: “President (John Pombe) Magufuli’s good intensions to serve Tanzanians might be hindered by hard-lined party affiliated ministers. Nape (Nnauye) is a liability… If they only knew how important parliamentary live coverage are to the people they wouldn’t move to limit them.”

The general feeling around the social media users and echoed by Opposition MP is that, the government intends to muzzle parliamentarians, who with the advantage of TBC’s live coverage which is accessed all over the country, have managed to fiercely criticize and shake the government during debate sessions in the eyes of Tanzanians.

Adding weight to the debate, political commentator and University of Dar es Salaam lecturer Prof Kitila Mkumbo tweeted: “The government which has plans to accommodate praises but not criticism will kill democracy. But that government must know that there is no development without democracy.”

The debate raged on Ms Maria Sarungi’s account. Some people defended the government saying by airing Bunge almost all day long, TBC was not receiving any adverts and its pockets were running dry.
