Mishono ya Vitenge - Kitenge and Khanga Print fashion for Tanzanians

Traditional African clothes bear symbols: Each piece of fabric tells a story. No two pieces are alike and each pattern and color combination has a meaning.
Jovago’s Travel experts present you a colourful panorama of fashion across Africa!
Kitenge and Kanga print

The kanga is typical and is sold as a 2 panel run, one for skirt, one for wrap (with 101 uses). It has a border print with a swahili proverb on it. The kitenge is 4-6 m length of fabric, sometimes with a border print; the fancier ones come with a lot of metallic paint.

Kikoi and Kanga
The Kikoi for men and Kanga for women are popular Masai clothing items. It is a colourful garment of printed cotton fabric, about 1.5m by 1m, often with a border along all four sides, and a central part which differs in design from the borders.
